House Building Speed Bumps 1-4

As some of you know we are about to start building our house! Exciting I know! But it is a rather stressful process! We are doing alot of the work ourselves so it puts more pressure then normal on us but it's worth it! We were getting so excited because we are supposed to start building in a couple weeks right, wrong! We hit a few speed bumps just barely...
Speed Bump #1 we just found out that we have to haul about $5,000 worth of dirt onto our lot so that we can build up the area where our house is going to sit, because as of right now we are low enough that if there were a moderate amount of water coming down the road that we would get flooded! Minor problem I know! And this dirt was not in our budget so that sucks and puts us a little over but we will just have to cut a corner some where else!
Speed Bump #2 When we bought the lot the block wall surrounding our property was included in the price! We were really excited about that, but the block wall guy is some what of an idiot and quite lazy! For example we bought the lot about 5 months ago and the wall has been slowly going up since then well in December we found out that the wall guy didn't pay his material bill and so WE got a lien put on our property! Lame I know! Well we finally got that taken off just barely so there is one headache gone and we thought all would be good now! Wrong again! When we went out there this weekend we found out that he has built the wall in our backyard completely wrong... it is supposed to be a retaining wall to help hold the dirt in but he has built a normal wall that is not going to pass the inspection so now he has to tear the whole thing down and start over! And if that's no bad enough he has left all of his equipment on our lot and dumped his excess materials onto our lot so now we have big mounds of concrete that have to be chipped out! Well that HE has to chip out cus' it's his fault and I don't like him right now! So we are having to wait for dumb wall guy to fix his mistakes and clean up his mess before we can even bring the dirt in that we need to start building! So Speed Bump #2 actually is like 3 Speed Bumps!!!

So ya that about sums up our dilemma's right now! I'm sure there will be more to come but I felt like complaining today so there you have it!
I will try to keep updates going on the process of the house building with pictures as we get more into it!

oh man,,,, good luck with the house building. It is kind of a pain and just plan on lots of unexpecteds. Our first house took us 8 months and our second took a year. I guess thats what you get when its not first priority to your job. I bet your wall guy is the same one we used. he was a major retard! good luck!

dude! i am so sorry to hear about the wall crap! you didn't tell us that! i feel like i am the only one that wants this right now. for some odd reason (since this was mostly his idea) it just seems like since i am trying to be totally organized, he is soooooresnting that or something. it is totally weird. we are also having to get bids rebid because the idiots are that IDIOTS are are giving us bids for a finished basement, when we have specifically said UNFINISHED!!!! Gohl it says it right on the plan in huge bold letters too! seriously sooooo annoying! i am glad that we are going to be living by eachother though :) i think it wil be a lot of fun! lol if we ever get started and actually moved in! anyways, have a good day and i am going to bed :) loves!

So sad. I swear Jordan's famous phrase lately is "it will all work out" even though that's the most annoying thing. I think you guys need a vacation haha, we're going to powell 7/3-7/10 if ya wanna come!

Keia! It's been too long! I don't remember how I found your blog, but it's fun to read. I hope that your house building goes better from here on out. My hubby Blake and I wanted to remodel a house and decided to wait. We're in St. George too. We should get together. Check out our blog. allisonblakenco.blogspot.com.

Of course I'm serious! The only thing is we might not go the whole week depending on work, but for sure a few days so we'll have to let ya know what days. And my parentals have another week the end of Aug, so we might have to go a weekend then too!
